The Chicago Bulls continue to prove there is nothing a man can do to a woman that would make him un-signable; I would like a word with Lilly King’s fiancé; Farewell, Donald Sutherland; and Reggie Jackson gives America a much-needed history lesson.

Happy Free Friday! If you’re a premium subscriber, hello again. And if you only get this email on Fridays, welcome back. Losing My Perspicacity is totally funded by premium subscriptions, so if you’d like to get LMP in your inbox every weekday morning, please consider upgrading to a premium subscription. Beehiiv just alerted content creators that there is a new “pay what you want” subscription option, which I think is supposed to function like a tip jar, but I’ll have to look into it further before it goes live. In the meantime, if you want to contribute a few pennies to keep LMP going, you can use the “Buy Me A Coffee” button at the end of the newsletter. Frankly, I hate the constant “selling” and self-promotion all of us with newsletters have to do, but I guess that’s the reality of the world of journalism these days. Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be, like, Mike Lupica and have other people do all the promotion and marketing on your behalf? Heaven, I bet.

It’s been an absolutely sweltering week in Chicagoland, and there’s not a lot of relief in sight, though we did get a much-needed thunderstorm before dinner tonight. Nearly 100 million Americans were under a heat advisory today, which seems like something our government should be more concerned about than it seems to be. If you really want to be depressed about the state of America, check out this NYT piece on a TV weatherman who got death threats and wound up having to leave his job in Des Moines because too many people didn’t like him telling the truth about climate change. Devastating.

Today, the Chicago Bulls continue to prove there is nothing a man can do to a woman that would make him un-signable; I would like a word with Lilly King’s fiancé; Farewell, Donald Sutherland; and Reggie Jackson gives America a much-needed history lesson.

Here we go.
