Losing My Perspicacity, June 20, 2025
Yay Dodgers, I guess?

Good Morning and Happy Free Friday! Thanks for stopping by today.
We’re going to start out in LA, in Chavez Ravine, to be exact. The Dodgers haven’t exactly been at the forefront of the fight against Trump’s draconian immigration policies, or any other fight, actually. As you’ll remember, the Dodgers went to the White House just two weeks after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth removed Jackie Robinson from the DOD website, and just this week, the team told a Latina singer not to sing the national anthem in Spanish. They’ve also gotten a fair amount of criticism for saying nothing while their city is under siege by ICE agents.
But yesterday, the Dodgers managed to stumble onto the right side of history when a bunch of masked yahoos showed up and asked for access to Dodger Stadium. Breathless reports that ICE has descended on Chavez Ravine began circulating yesterday morning on social media. That, in turn, resulted in a protest at the gates and LAPD getting involved.
You can see the ICE agents in their minivans then the LAPD cars in the back appearing to block the Dodger Stadium parking lot entrance. When I asked an LAPD officer if they are blocking ICE from entering the parking lot she said “put it this way. The Dodgers don’t want them coming in.”

The Dodgers then released this statement on X.

Good for them for finally taking a stand on something. But the story only got weirder from there. Because the Department of Homeland Security (I continue to think that name sounds like something from behind the Iron Curtain) says that it wasn’t ICE that showed up at Dodger Stadium.
So, who were these guys?
Just some creepy armed Mad Max guys trying to gain entry to Dodgers Stadium. ICE says it wasn’t them. DHS says they were Border Patrol. But honestly who the hell knows? They’ve given permission for any psycho to put on a ski mask, point a gun, grab people & throw them into an unmarked vehicle.

Do you get the sense that, when it comes to DHS, one hand has no idea what the other hand is doing? Also, men with nefarious intentions are inevitably going to show up somewhere cosplaying as ICE, and someone is going to get hurt. We’ve reached the point where Americans are expected to submit to a bunch of unidentified yahoos in masks.
The Dodgers had been scheduled to make an announcement about how they would support the immigrant community in LA, but, for reasons understood by few, the team now says all the activity today will delay their announcement. No, I don’t know why.
Not only have the Dodgers, who have probably made millions off the Latino community in LA, been silent on ICE raids and the ensuing protests around the city, but I found this total cop out remark from Manager Dave Roberts:
Roberts, who helped lead the Dodgers to World Series titles in 2020 and 2024, said he didn't know enough about the situation to "speak intelligently on it."
Roberts said that on June 13, after ICE raids had broken out all over LA, and when pretty much anyone with a pulse had an opinion on what was happening. The rest of the nation certainly did — this was one day before the #NoKings protests.
We still have no idea why ICE wanted to use the stadium’s parking lot, except that there were raids all over LA yesterday. Over at the LA Times, Steve Lopez had some theories:
Roughly a quarter of the players in Major League Baseball are from outside the country. Those foreigners have visas, as I understand it, but these days, the Trump administration has made clear that temporary protected legal status is no guarantee against ejection. Not from a game, but from the country.
Has anybody checked Shohei Ohtani’s papers lately? Or those of Teoscar Hernández, Kim Hye-seong or Yoshinobu Yamamoto?
Border Patrol is trying to play it off that they just pulled over briefly and then moved on, but Jacob Soboroff reported that LAPD “saved” CBP from the protestors.
if you don’t know the history of Dodger Stadium you can’t fully understand what unfolded today. thanks @chrislhayes.bsky.social for the opportunity to share it.

Hats off to Soboroff for pointing out that Latino families were forcibly evicted from their homes to build Dodger Stadium in the first place.

The Ninth Circuit finds in favor of Trump
After I had finished and scheduled this newsletter for the morning, the notoriously liberal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals released its ruling that overturned Judge Breyer’s Temporary Restraining Order that would have forced control of the National Guard to be returned to the Governor of California.
At issue before the court was whether the President needed permission from a state governor to send in the National Guard. The DOJ argued that the courts were not permitted to review Trump’s decision to send in the NG at all, which the court roundly rejected.

This ruling only pertained to the TRO — there’s a hearing this morning before Judge Breyer that will delve into more substantive issues. Breyer, if you recall, seemed shocked and appalled by Trump’s actions in LA. We’ll definitely hear from California about violations of the Posse Comitatus Act, which prevents the military from acting as a domestic police force. More to come.
X is more of a cesspit than we knew
It took me way too long to leave X, but I’ve never looked back. Had I known that pedos were peddling child sexual assault materials (CSAM) over there, I would have left much sooner.
Now, it seems that the CSAM problem on X is out of control. How’s that no moderation working out for ya, Elon?
When Elon Musk took over Twitter in 2022, he said that addressing the problem of child sexual abuse material on the platform was his “top priority.” Three years later, the problem appears to be escalating, as anonymous, seemingly automated X accounts flood hashtags with hundreds of posts per hour advertising the sale of the illegal material.
At the same time, Thorn, a California-based nonprofit organization that works with tech companies to provide technology that can detect and address child sexual abuse content, told NBC News that it had terminated its contract with X.
Thorn said that X stopped paying recent invoices for its work, though it declined to provide details about its deal with the company citing legal sensitivities.
I know Elon has been busy gutting the federal government, dismantling every regulatory agency that was investigating him, and watching four straight SpaceX rockets blow up, but stopping people from pushing CSAM on your platform seems like it should be issue A-1, does it not?
According to NBC News, some of the issues they flagged in a 2023 investigation are still present on X, such as users claiming specific hashtags to advertise CSAM. It’s bizarre that this is still a problem when we know a) how little Elon sleeps and b) that he’s been sliding into random DMs to offer strange women his sperm. He apparently has a lot of downtime.
I’m sure now that he’s freed up even more time in his schedule, Elon will get right on it. There’s something very unsettling about a guy who wants to have children with every woman he comes across, but is unwilling to do anything to protect them from CSAM peddlers.
Speaking of Elon…
Two days ago, as we watched yet another SpaceX ship explode into flames (at least this time it happened on the launch pad, and not, you know, over Western Florida), someone on Bluesky pointed out that explosions are expected when designing a rocketships, but that, ideally, the explosions should come further and further along in the trajectory of the craft.
As mentioned above, this is the fourth straight SpaceX ship to burst into flames.
BREAKING: SpaceX Starship explodes during static fire test

Between all the cybertrucks locking people inside, the self-driving Teslas that don’t seem to recognize small children, and all the exploding rockets, can you imagine being a volunteer to try out Neuralink?
Listen to the audio for the entire video. You can hear someone from The Dawn Project say that they’ve been flagging this issue to Tesla for years, but the company has not fixed the problem for its Full Self-Driving cars. According to The Dawn Project, this should be a relatively easy problem to fix, sort of like your social media platform being infiltrated by sexual predators.
Trump thinks you get too many days off
According to the site Trump Golf Track, by the end of May, Trump had spent 33 days golfing, roughly 22 percent of his time in office. Keep that in mind while you read the following unhinged post from Truth Social.

Do you hear that, kids? The guy who flies back to Florida every weekend thinks you have too many off days. “The workers don’t want it, either.” Yeah, we hate time off.
This is about Juneteenth, specifically. I don’t seem to recall Trump saying this about Memorial Day or President’s Day. He doesn’t want a day off to honor Black Americans.
Also: Why the comma before “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN”? Good Lord, Man. You went to Penn.
Shut up and let the girls fight
If you’ve spent any time on the internet at all this week, you’ve no doubt seen the menfolk screeching about a fight that broke out during the Fever-Suns game on Tuesday night.
The game ended with three ejections and six technicals - lmao - and the men have been beside themselves ever since. When I say “menfolk,” I mean the same Stephen A. Smith/Pat McAfee/Dave Portnoy crowd that is always upset about something having to do with Caitlin Clark or the WNBA.

I’m guessing there’s a vast divide here between guys who had sisters who played sports and guys who didn’t. Women have always been just as competitive (maybe more so, as we have fewer outlets for it) and aggressive when it comes to sports as men are. Women push, shove, scratch, pull hair, etc. It has always been this way.
In an NBA game, we would laugh and move on. When it’s the WNBA, half the sports world loses their minds over women being physical with each other. I just want one WNBA season that isn’t full of faux controversies made up by the man children on ESPN.
The High Note
Each Day, I do my best to leave you with a smile on your face, a song in your heart, and the will to fight another day.
In honor of Juneteenth, please enjoy this tiny history lesson from Blackish and The Roots.
Survive and advance out there today, kids. Don’t let the bastards get you down.
Have a great weekend!
